Great news for us native plant lovers – there will be a native plant pop-up market this coming Friday, August 16, so we can scoop up plants for our fall plantings. It will be held as part of the Environmental Fair hosted by Chatham Conservation Foundation, at the Community Center in Chatham, and it will run 10 am to 3 pm.
The market is being organized by Grow Native Massachusetts. If you don’t know them, this is a good chance to get acquainted. They are one of the major forces advocating for and educating about native plants in Massachusetts.
They are bringing three of their native plant nursery friends – Blue Stem Natives, Tree Talk Natives, and Butterfly Effect Farm. These are all located south of Boston and an easy drive to get locally grown straight species plants. So even if you are not in the market for plants right now, it might be worthwhile to stop by and get to know each nursery and what they offer so you can shop next spring.
I spoke to a Blue Stem owner, and they are bringing a U-Haul full of plants, so there should be a good selection. I for one have a few holes in my plantings to fill, so I will definitely be there. Hope to see you too!
